Release Notes

What's New?

Minor release with a few improvements and a couple of new HealthChecks - no breaking changes to codebase or config and no silly code name!

Improvements

  • Built-in GrowlNotificationFinaliser "GrowlSuccessNotificationFinaliser" & "GrowlCountNotificationFinaliser" have additional configuration properties available to allow you to set the Growl Notification Text and Sticky properties. See the finaliser.castle.config file for comments on how to use these.
  • GrowlHealthCheckSessionPublisher now automatically creates a sticky Growl Notification if there are any unhealthy activities or HealthChecks and sets the Priority level to Emergency.
  • GrowlHealthCheckResultPublisher now automatically creates a sticky Growl Notification if a HealthCheck encountered an exception (critical failure) and also sets the Priority level to Emergency. Minor formatting changes to result messages - they now include the datetime of the result.

New Features

  • WindowsServiceStateCheck HealthCheck - allows you to create a list of windows services and specify the server (can be local or remote) and the expected state these services should be in (Running or Stopped) and then checks that these services are in the expected state; if not a HealthCheck result is published as a "failure", one per service that has faulted. See the Health Checks page for more details.
    • This check is useful as system maintenance or service failure can alter the service state.
  • WindowsServiceStartupCheck HealthCheck - allows you to create a list of windows services and specify the server (can be local or remote) and the expected startup type these services should have (Auto, Manual or Disabled) and then checks that these services do have the correct startup type; if not a HealthCheck result is published as a "failure", one per service that has faulted. See the Health Checks page for more details.
    • This check is useful as system maintenance or service redeployment can reset the startup type.
  • UrlPingCheck HealthCheck - this check will ping a url to test it responds and can optionally publish its result based on the response time. You can setup this check to either always publish a result or only if it fails. As a successful ping includes the response time you can use this to monitor variations over time (perfect in Geckoboard as a Linechart or Geck-o-meter via the MonitorWang Geckoboard Data Service Activity plugin!). See the Health Checks page for more details.
